I was dragged into " middle age" completely against my will. Despite my intense denial (and kicking and screaming) the day arrived when I found myself deep in the doldrums. I havegreat kids, great friends, a great job,... but the fizz had gone out of life a little. Perhaps it was hiding in that slight paunch I was starting to carry around.
I was feeling a slight sense of dis-ease....How to find a new spark? Where to look? Finally I decided I better do something. I needed to take control and get back into the swing of things... I needed to take charge ... get my sad body back into shape...I need to row my own boat!
Maybe an adventure might help ward off the demons of middle age and raise some money for a very worthwhile cause.
Having mis-spent a lot time in my younger days messing about in boats and knowing that rowing was a great low impact execise, I thought about a rowing adventure. Rowing the Atlantic was just a tad intimidating .... Maybe I could manage a smaller body of water. Lake Ontario is nearby.... that was it! Row across the lake. Toronto to Niagara on the Lake.
If 16 year old swimmers can cross it then a slightly worn out middle-aged guy should be able to train a bit and manage that 50 km (28 nautical miles) in a boat. Next - The Boat
